What's my hurricane deductible?
Most South Carolina home policies have a separate deductible for hurricanes or named storms, set as a percentage of your dwelling coverage. Here's what that percentage means in dollars.
Good to know
Flood is separate. Hurricane deductibles apply to wind damage. Storm surge and rising water need a flood policy, with its own deductible.
You can often choose. Many carriers let you lower the percentage for a higher premium. On the coast, a lower option may not be offered.
When it applies depends on your policy wording, usually a hurricane watch or warning from the National Weather Service. Your declarations page shows which deductible you have.
